About us

Bubulo Secondary School was founded in 1983 by the Anglican Diocese of Mbale as part of a community-led effort to increase access to quality education in the Bugisu sub-region. The school was created to bridge a critical gap in post-primary education, especially for children from economically disadvantaged households who could not access existing institutions such as Bubulo Girls High School, which at the time admitted only female learners. From its inception, Bubulo Secondary School was envisioned as a mixed-gender, community-responsive school designed to offer equal learning opportunities to boys and girls across Manafwa District and the surrounding areas.

Initially, the school offered Ordinary Level (O’ Level) studies, gradually building a reputation for discipline, academic commitment, and strong community involvement. Due to increasing demand and demonstrated success, the school was upgraded to offer Advanced Level (A’ Level) programs in 1993. This transition significantly expanded the institution’s capacity to support learners seeking advanced secondary education and to prepare them for university studies and professional careers. Over the years, nine head teachers have steered the school’s growth, with the late Mr. Charles John Khaukha serving the longest tenure (1985–2001). The school continues to grow under the leadership of the current head teacher, Mrs. Akello Rose Kuloba.

As a government-aided school under the Ministry of Education and Sports, Bubulo Secondary School aligns its academic programs with national development priorities, including Uganda Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan (NDP IV). The school prioritizes academic excellence, skills training, character formation, and environmentally responsible behaviour. With a current enrolment of 674 boys and 605 girls, the school remains committed to offering inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education while maintaining strong ties with the church, community, and alumni networks.
